Gus Dudgeon spent five weeks in D.J.M. Recording Studios remixing these tracks from the original multi-tracks into the new Digital Stereo format.
Gus later stated that he did not like the results of this remastering. At an East End Lights Elton Fan Expo, he described how his studio time was limited for the project. He was also hampered by a blown speaker amplifier, requiring him to do most of the mixing while listening in mono.
Notable differences:
Your Song - drumming is up front in the mix
Crocodile Rock - chorus sounds different; organ & "la-la's" are louder
Rocket Man - different acoustic guitar, especially at the end; different vocals
Daniel - very different vocals and background vocals
Saturday Night's Alright - guitars are less prominent in the mix
Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding - lead guitar more defined; many differences during the Funeral For A Friendsection
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - lead vocal more up front and not so blended with the background vocals in the chorus
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - acoustic guitar in first verse
Philadelphia Freedom
Someone Saved My Life Tonight - electric piano more up front; no cymbal crashes during the transition from the bridge to the closing chorus
We All Fall In Love Sometimes / Curtains - in the Curtains section, the background vocal bass "ahs" are very pronounced and haunting
