It's a bit like playing at a wedding reception." Elton introduced Stevie Wonder as "one of the all-time great musicians."

US AUCTION - Christie's Auction House, Beverly Hills CA

The handwritten lyrics to Candle in the Wind '97, penned in honor of Princess Diana and sung by Elton John at her funeral, sold for more than $400,000 at auction. Three pages of lyrics, written by Bernie Taupin, and a final printed version autographed by the two men were sold to the Lund Foundation, a children's charity founded by Walt Disney's daughter Sharon Disney Lund, who died in 1993. Taupin said, "It's beyond our wildest dreams."

Elton John's version of the song, which he sang at Diana's September 6 1997memorial service, has sold more than thirty-five million copies worldwide, making it the biggest-selling single in history. Proceeds from the single go to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Elton has said he will never perform the song again, unless it is specifically requested by one of her sons, Princes William or Harry.

This show was not part of the tour, rather it was a private concert for Citibank by Elton John alone at the piano. Ryan Reed was lucky enough to attend, and had this to say:

I was lucky enough to win tickets and attend a private concert at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC on Monday, May 11th. It was sponsored by Citibank and given to its members by Elton as a thank you for them sponsoring the tour.

Well all I have to say is WOW!!!. Two and a half hours of acoustic Elton John in the best sounding hall on the planet. It was just him and his piano singing some of the best music ever created. The show started with the chairman of Citibank stating "we now have Sir Elton John all to ourselves for the next 2 hours" I had seats on the side of the stage in a private box about ten rows back with an unbelievable view of Elton. He came out with a huge smile saying "I am so excited to play here as I have always wanted to" he wore a black rounded color suit with sequins down the sides and a design on the back. he looked great!!!

Due to Billy Joel's illness, this three hour show was performed only by Elton John and his band. Elton told Capital FM radio: "It was a little odd not seeing Billy there because we're so used to doing this thing and not seeing the piano and him across from me was very strange. I feel really sorry for him. I spoke to him yesterday and he's in a really bad way and he feels terrible."
"This is the sort of thing that you cannot take a risk with because it could mess up your voice for all time, so he's just got to get it rested until he's ready to come back and I will go to Dusseldorf, Munich and Berlin and do these shows on my own."

After the session, Tammy asked Elton to autograph the lyric sheet and he wrote, "Dearest Tammy, The Queen of Country Meets the Queen of England - Love, Elton." She always laughed over that.
