This discography has been divided, rather arbitrarily, into five periods that approximate stages of Paul Simon's musical career. The benefit is that each period's web page will load quicker than a single page covering Paul's whole career.
You can navigate directly to the period you are interested in, or use the Paul Simon Timeline to find a particular single or album. Everything is in chronological order, so reissues appear when they were released, not in the period they were recorded.
Please let me know what you think of the discography, and send me any corrections, additions or collectables. Thanks for reading! .../

From a Warner Bros press release:
You're The One, a new album from singer/songwriter Paul Simon will be released by Warner Bros. Records on October 3rd. A hypnotically beautiful, powerful song cycle rich in emotion and energy, You're The One is easily Paul Simon's most accessible and melodic album in more than a decade and features a compelling guitar-driven rhythmic pulse that is evident throughout the album. While Paul's voice has become more powerful with time, the subtlety and phrasing of his vocals gives listeners an intimate glimpse of what s been on Paul Simon's mind and the songs -- story-oriented like his earlier works -- have the lyrical intensity and beauty of Simon's later writing. Truly one of America s most gifted songwriters, Paul Simon has produced what may be his best work.
You're The One features Simon's 10-piece band with whom he has worked over the years, and whom he toured with on last summer s hugely successful outing with Bob Dylan. The release of You're The One will be followed by a fall tour slated to begin on October 16th in Stockholm, Sweden. The tour will cover 29 shows in 13 cities across Europe and the U.S. and will include material that spans Simon's entire career. A great album from the first listen, You're The One is vintage Paul Simon.

US CD - Expanded Versions of the 5 original Simon & Garfunkel studio albums
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
"By 1966, Simon & Garfunkel had become their generation's urbane receptacles of hipness and harsh reality alike, assimilating and then embroidering the zeitgeist of a rich and manic era. At the same time, these two artists, as much as any of their peers, held firmly to the unchanging artistic fundaments of precision, clarity and beauty. The duo made some of the loveliest recordings of that or any era. That they accomplished all this with their voices, an acoustic guitar and the sparest of rhythmic underpinning and melodic ornamentation; a harpsichord here, snare and brushes there, the occasional bass and drum kit, remains a remarkable achievement." - from the liner notes written by Bud Scoppa - for PARSLEY, SAGE, ROSEMARY & THYME.
More than three decades after Simon & Garfunkel's final Columbia studio recordings for BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER were committed to tape, their music resonates as deeply as ever, not only for the generation caught in the whirlwind of change that defined the 1960s and early '70s, but for the generations who followed and discovered themselves at the same edge of the "autumnal truths" proclaimed in Bud Scoppa's eloquent liner notes.
For those at both ends of this timeline, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate the restoration of Simon & Garfunkel's five seminal albums as the latest entries in the Expanded Editions series of Columbia/Legacy, a division of Sony Music. Each title has been digitally remastered and contains a multiple of bonus tracks, including demos, alternate takes, a non-album single side, most of which are previously unissued. All five albums are set to arrive in stores August 21st. At the same time, in addition to the individual jewel-box releases, all five Expanded Editions will be packaged together as a deluxe collector's box as SIMON & GARFUNKEL: THE COLUMBIA STUDIO RECORDINGS 1964-1970, including:
- WEDNESDAY MORNING, 3 A.M.
- SOUNDS OF SILENCE
- PARSLEY, SAGE, ROSEMARY & THYME
- BOOKENDS
- BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
Several years in completion, the restoration of the 5-album original Simon & Garfunkel catalogue was accomplished with the input of the artists themselves, working closely with their long-time producer/engineer Roy Halee and reissue producer Bob Irwin. The music on all five Expanded Editions was mastered at Sony Music Studios in NYC.
In the tradition of previous Legacy Expanded Editions, the CD booklets reprise the original LP artwork while also including song lyrics, vintage photography (much of it rare and previously unseen), original liner notes (where they were written), and newly-written liner notes by noted rock journalist and music industry veteran Bud Scoppa that put each album in perspective.
The specially-constructed long-box format of THE COLUMBIA STUDIO RECORDINGS 1964-1970 will be a uniquely different and highly collectible configuration. The discs will be housed in light-cardboard replications of the original LP jackets (front and back, meticulously reduced to CD size). The expanded graphics of all five new booklets have been combined into one comprehensive book whose thickness will be specially accommodated by the long-box packaging. The box is the ultimate tribute both to Simon & Garfunkel, the first duo of the 1960s to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum, and to the albums themselves.
The Columbia/Legacy Expanded Editions of the Simon & Garfunkel catalogue (and the accompanying boxed set) are the latest steps in a process that began with the release of the Old Friends 3-CD boxed set in September 1997; followed by the freshly-compiled 20-song The Best Of Simon & Garfunkel single-CD collection that was released in November 1999.
"To Artie and Paul," Scoppa concludes, "those years they spent together, and the music they made together, are now merely an early chapter in their continuing personal sagas, with their attendant triumphs and disappointments. For those of us who lived through those times, though, hearing their songs never fails to bring back certain moments in our own lives, and with startling vividness. They moved on, and so did the rest of us. But they left us with a spiritual restorative that would sustain us through the tough times that lay ahead. And we could live with that."

WEDNESDAY MORNING, 3 A.M. by SIMON
& GARFUNKEL
(CK 65999, recorded 1964, originally released
October 19, 1964, as Columbia KCS 9049)
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
WEDNESDAY MORNING, 3 A.M.
The Columbia Records premiere of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel as an acoustic duo was supervised by staff producer Tom Wilson, who 'discovered' them and signed them to the label. The LP burst with traditional folk music staples like Peggy-O, Go Tell It On the Mountain, Ed McCurdy's Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream, and Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin'. Art's evocative original liner notes (written in New York as a letter to Paul, who was on sabbatical in London) go to great lengths to shape the listener's perception of his partner's expanding poetic vistas on Sparrow and Bleecker Street, even as he worries about the harmonica mix in the studio on He Was My Brother. Nowhere is there even a thought given to the fate of the original, unadorned version of The Sounds Of Silence.

SOUNDS OF SILENCE by SIMON &
GARFUNKEL
(CK 65998, recorded 1965, originally released January 17,
1966, as Columbia KCS 9269)
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
SOUNDS OF SILENCE
In the summer of 1965, with the amplified 'folk-rock' of Bob Dylan, The Byrds, The Turtles, The Lovin' Spoonful and others populating the airwaves, and Simon in England (again) and Garfunkel at Columbia University studying architecture, Wilson independently overdubbed an electric guitar and a rhythm section onto Simon &Garfunkel's 1964 track and The Sound Of Silence went straight to #1. The duo hastened back to Columbia and worked through the end of the year with a new staff producer, Bob Johnston, whose touch is felt on Simon &Garfunkel's first grouping of signature works, including Leaves That Are Green, Kathy's Song, April Come She Will, and I Am A Rock.
The resulting LP, issued in January '66, hit the chart immediately, rose as high as #21 and stayed on the best-seller list nearly three years, 143 weeks. The bonus tracks here include demos of three traditional folk ballads and The Blues Run the Game, written by expatriate singer-songwriter Jackson C. Frank, whose one collector's item album was produced by Simon during his U.K. stay of 1965.

PARSLEY, SAGE, ROSEMARY & THYME by
SIMON & GARFUNKEL
(CK 66001, recorded 1965-66,
originally released October 10, 1966, as Columbia CS 9363)
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
PARSLEY, SAGE, ROSEMARY & THYME
Much has been made of the 28-minute length of this original album, a deeply personal yet overtly political concept LP from beginning (Scarborough Fair / Canticle) to end (7 O'clock News / Silent Night). Notwithstanding any such considerations, the LP has endured by virtue of containing the new standards Homeward Bound, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), and For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her, plus its lone chart single The Dangling Conversation. Their second with producer Johnston (who would go on to work with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Dino Valente and others), the album also took its place immediately on the chart, rose as high as #4, and overlapped its predecessor for most of its nearly three year stay, 145 weeks.

BOOKENDS by SIMON &
GARFUNKEL
(CK 66003, recorded 1966-68, originally released April
1968, as Columbia CS 9529)
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
BOOKENDS
Starting to produce themselves under engineer Roy Halee's experienced watch, the duo became involved more than ever with their sound. Side two of this original LP reprised their three most recent hit singles of '66-67, A Hazy Shade Of Winter, At the Zoo, and Fakin' It. It was the prelude to the springtime 1968 movie, The Graduate, whose Columbia soundtrack album (released in March) included the #1 single, Mrs. Robinson. Simon & Garfunkel recorded a new version of the tune for their own album (which was issued a month later). Another new track, America, also hit the singles chart in 1972, out of left field. The bonus tracks here include You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies (the B side of Fakin' It), famed as the only Simon & Garfunkel single-side never included on any album until it showed up on the Old Friends boxed set in 1997.

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER by SIMON
& GARFUNKEL
(CK 66004, recorded 1968-69, originally released
January 26, 1970, as Columbia KCS 9914)
From the Columbia Daily Newsletter:
BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
The duo reportedly spent more than 800 hours over a two-year span recording their ultimate legacy. The title tune single Bridge Over Troubled Water (which won five Grammys) and the LP (voted Album of the Year) were #1 on the U.S. and U.K. charts simultaneously, a rare achievement for any artist before or since. But the 1969 LP marked the end of the road (at least for a while) for Simon & Garfunkel, who went out 'in style' with 4 singles spanning 1969-70, The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia b/w The Only Living Boy In New York and El Condor Pasa (If I Could). This edition also features a previously unreleased demo version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
