In the next few weeks we will be moving a new server into
place which will take over as our main web server (and
possibly mail).

The new server will be running FreeBSD 6.1. Binary
compatibility with the current FreeBSD 4.x system will be
enabled, but users are encouraged to recompile their
software after the upgrade.

The new server will have upgraded versions of many other key
pieces of software. Noteably, for the web server, we will be
moving from Apache 1.3 to Apache 2.2.

PHP will go from 4.3 to 4.4 (unless we have time to do more
testing with PHP 5), Perl will be at 5.8.8. Python, however,
will continue for a while with our default of version 2.3
(version 2.4 is available, but not the default), as there
are some known compatibility problems for our clients.

There is no exact schedule for these events yet. There will
be a short downtime required.
