This thread intrigues me.

I'm using yarn v. 0.89 under OS/2 and I don't have a NEWS.DAT file. My
message base seems to be entirely in several files with numbers for names,
like 9607, 9609, 9610 in my i:\yarn\news\ directory.

Am I doing someting wrong? Everything seems to work okay.
