I've lost all the earlier parts of this thread, but I use nngrep in my
shell account to get a list of all groups. Don't know where it came
from, it was already on the system. There's a man page for it, but I
haven't looked it over.

Just discovered that my ISP now has over 22,000 groups after they
upgraded the news server about a week ago. Awesome!
