I have had problems with this, i found that if you rmgroup agroup before
you expire all articles in it you can't get rid of the articles from
the news.dat, i've run rebuild several times but it has no effect on
rmgrouped groups that were not expired 1st.

The above could be the reason U can't shrink the news.dat.
PS a solution to the problem would be greatly appricated.
