SOUPER Return Code?

I use Souper under OS/2 Warp to read and post to newsgroups (although
this is probably not an OS specific problem). The command I use to
send posts is:

souper -s my_isp_mail_host my_id my_password

I check the return code to see if it's safe to archive then delete
the ZIP file. The puppy seems to return success, even it can't
connect or send my posts. Does anyone out there know of a fix for
this problem (such as another way of detecting a failure)?
