I've gotten some email requests on how to setup a kill file. I guess since
I've admitted that I couldn't understand it and now have created one, that
some may think I can explain it in simple terms. I don't know, but here
goes.
Below is a portion of my kill file and I'll put the definitions as I
understand them, next to each command.
First you need to use an editor and create a file called kill and place it
in your home directory. For instance f:\home\kill is my setup. Once you
have the file created, you will add the filters that you want to use to
delete posts as described below.
all { <---The all command is for every
from @anon.penet.fi post that is downloaded. The
Subject Suck brackets enclose the filters
Subject Sex that is used to delete posts.
Subject Fuck You can filter the from, Subject
Subject Shit and header fields as shown to
Subject Make Money Now the left. In Newsgroups, the 6
header Newsgroups: .*,.*,.*,.*,.*,.* asteriks will filter out any
} posts that are
crossposted to over 6
groups. Be sure to leave
a space before the bracket
or the kill file won't work
as well as the closing
bracket on a new line.
I don't know why, I just
know it won't work.
There aren't this many
blank lines between each
group. I've just separated
them for discussion here.
I just skip a line between
the closing bracket and
the next sub.
alt.support.asthma { <----This next set of filters are based
Subject Smoking on each individual newsgroup
Subject Cigarettes Name the newsgroup, put in
} the bracket and then the
filters that you don't want
bit.listserv.os2-l { to get and then the closing
Subject Hyperaccess bracket. You will not get
} anything that has these
titles in the subject line.
co.jobs { You can also put in user's
Subject Developer here by adding the same
Subject Engineer type line as above in anon.
Subject Sales penet.fi.
Subject Programmer
Subject Administrator

I hope that this helps those of you who asked me. Use this and you should
be able to make a kill file that works. Also, rereading the souper docs
helps to understand the kill file too.
