Undeleted articles won't show if child is marked read?!?

I seem to have run into a curious bug. If there's a thread with two
articles, like there was in the last batch on this list I got:

unwanted reading in messages |Arnoud "Galactus"
+-> |Mikus Grinbergs

If I mark the upper message as read, leave the group and come back,
the lower message isn't shown any more.
