Because of significant dissatisfaction with the new news base
format expressed in the Yarn list, I continue to use version 0.89
as it meets my needs quite nicely.
Although I understand the basics of using score files,
I do have one lingering problem. I do not understand what is
meant in the docs file when it uses the term "pattern," followed
by a string of alphanumerics. I assume it means that you can search
for any given string, not just whole words.
I have two Internet accounts, one of which is a shell account, and
the other a PPP account. I use a dos-based program called Nettamer
for the PPP account. Unfortunately, the format in which Nettamer
downloads news groups and email is incompatible with that of Yarn.
I much prefer to read using Yarn because of its sophisticated threading
and message handling capabilities. But is there a mechanism whereby
I may continue to use Yarn if in the
future I no longer have access to a shell account?
Since the Uqwk program is not presently installed on my shell account,
I manually download email and news groups into one common file using
Unix mailbox format and then use
Yarn's import program to bring the news and email into the news base.
As I know little about Unix, I wonder if it is difficult to write the Unix
script so that Uqwk would make the Soup packets for Yarn?
Sorry for all the questions. Frankly, I do not feel sufficiently
literate in computer matters to post questions of this type to the
Yarn list. So I posted this message initially to an individual
who suggested that I really should post it here in the list.
Thanks for any ideas.
