I run the OS/2 version of Souper, so my ideas may be all wrong, but
here goes anyway.

The OS/2 version defaults to 2MB if there's no -k nnn parameter. I
assume a similar default applies to the Winsoup versions.

It's easy to rebuild an AREAS file, but even easier if you've kept a
copy somewhere else. The format is:

0000000 Email mn <- mn or un (mail is mn, usenet news is un)
#.msg |
| Newsgroup name (or email)
What seems to be spaces is, in reality, a [TAB]
