Those "things" are mail messages. You have to use a different
tool -- score files -- to clean up a newsgroup. Unfortunately,
that only applies after you've downloaded the garbage.
Take a gander at http://www.nic.com/~cannon/handson.html for
links to trnkill (if you're using uqwk); it can apply a trn
killfile to your .newsrc file on the host and kill unwanted
posts before you run uqwk.
It can also do even smarter things depending on your skill with trn.
You could:
- mark all the YARN posts and kill everything else,
- junk everything crossposted to a certain group,
or to too many groups,
- junk everything over x,xxx lines,
- junk everything UNDER xx lines - the "me too" posts - in
a binaries group
You didn't mention whether you're using Souper, which has
scoring features and can also junk the junk before it is
downloaded.
Now, if I can just figure out the mail filter syntax to
delete all the references to OS/2....
