This topic is a *religious* issue. I've asked around; the best
answer I've recieved is:
- If there is a list with many subscribers that often carries
"announcements" (to which follow-ups are typically reader-to-
originator), it makes sense to leave the Reply-To: pointing to
the author of the article, so others can respond directly.
- If the list is a "community", in which the listmaster wants
everybody to participate (and does *not* want off-list "side"
interactions), the list server software is set up to override
the original Reply-To: with the address of the list itself.
That way, a simple response will be seen by everyone.
mikus (two religions; two ways of setting up lists)
p.s. I've set up a pseudo-newsgroup into which posts to yarn-list
are filtered. When looking at an article with Yarn: if I
want to respond to the author, I use the 'R' command; if I
want everybody to see the response, I use the 'F' command.
