I just read it before this message. Excellent bit of trivia. I tried the
switch with import (no packet name) and it DIDN'T give me the "illegal
switch" message... so i consider that confirmation. (-:

Also thanks for your calm and -reasoned- comments in response to my rather
unforgivable rant. I was frustrated that night. I'm not good at holding
things in when i'm writing messages. (-: I'm still frustrated, come to
think of it. But it won't slip out this time. Wheh!

>REXX was originally written for VM and then it was ported to OS/2.

Ah REXX, i love my rexx. In fact I have gone and made my Foldup script now
compatible with Object REXX so it could theoretically be used on Win95/NT
(i have even tested it). Now whether anyone out there wants to install a 3
meg package just to run my Foldup script is another matter! Heheh.

>You're not "tuned" yet. I still get a few "illegal operations", but that

I'm still getting crashes and lockups, of varying severity, quite
frequently. Photoshop (3.05) seems to be one program that totally
destabilise the system... or maybe it's a certain combo of programs... i
don't know. All i know is it's (here) an unstable system! And i haven't
hacked it up much yet, honest! (-; It's all standard stuff.

AH! that's the "reason" behind it! That does make a certain amount of
sense when you put it that way. It's can be hell for "legacy apps" (DOS,
especially) on the "new hardware" though.

No i'm not running anything that I can think of that would make the HD run
so much. It continues to though. I can't figure it out. No Doublespace. No
background defragmenter. There's no special diagnostics software installed.
There's not really any extra packages installed at all. I installed a
couple of "powertoys" but that's about it. Just the QuickRes and
Explore-From-Here. Hmmm.

Well that explains that one! The CDrom is indeed on an EIDE controller.
Horrible. I have to put a piece of tape over the light before it hypnotises
me with its flashing! In fact I hereby blame everything on the CD-Rom
light, it's all the light's fault, don't blame me! Doesn't help that i
often am sitting in the dark where that little green spectre is like a
needle in the retina. Ok, i'm overstating things a little. (-:

Not so easy to get used to keyboards when my keyboard downstairs is
standard and upstairs is "MS". As soon as I get used to the one upstairs
i'm screwed down here, and vice versa. I can't win! Maybe i'll one day
become ambi-keyboard-dexterous, with practice.

>You mean the mouse itself? Or is that the sound scheme you have? If it's

Yes i am referring to the loud clicking noise of the mouse button itself. I
have all system sounds shut off in windows (when i use it). I admit, i'm a
little hypersensitive to these sorts of sounds (and flashing lights!). My
mouse down here has an almost totally silent button action. My mouse down
here however feels like a piece of crap compared to the ms mouse. once
again I can't win. The mouse that feels good and comfortable makes
tortuous noise, the one that is nice and quiet has terrible tracking and i
now realise is relatively uncomfortable.

How's that for whining! (-; I should just spare myself and give up
computers! Heh. And spare everyone else... <-: I do perceive, if i'm not
mistaken, i'm off topic again.
