If the program path is correct, you should have a 'soupcan with a plug'
icon. You shouldn't have to browse for an icon. The 'Chameleon
Sampler' is a windows sockets interface, as is any interface that will
let you run Netscape or other winsock clients. I had used Chameleon
Sampler and am now using Chameleon. Souper will run without being
connected to the net, though you'll get errors if you try uploading or
downloading anything. You'll get a 'dll not found' error if you do not
have a winsock.dll file. Souper will generate a "Winsock ver 1.1 Not
Supported in .dll." error if your winsock interface doesn't support
Souper.
The Win32s 32 bit drivers from Microsoft shouldn't have any affect on
Souper. I have that on my system. I don't remember which version, but
it's dated 9/6/95. I think it was 1.35 or something, but that
shouldn't matter unless you're using a 32 bit winsock. If so, you'll
get the 'dll not found' error.
That leaves the screen reader software. I assume that this is designed
for Windows? If so, it probably replaces some of the routines that I'm
using to write to the screen. There may be an incompatibility in this
that prevents Souper from running. Could you send me information on
the screen reader or a location to get technical information on it?
One other item that might be a problem is memory and resources. Check
the amount of memory you have by clicking on Program Manager Help, then
'About Program Manager...'. At the bottom of the dialog box, it will
list the 'Memory:' and 'System Resources:'. If the memory is low (less
than about 1,000 KB Free), exit other applications or increase the
virtual memory using 'Control Panel' / '386 Enhanced' / 'Virtual
Memory...' to increase the size of the Swapfile. If the 'System
Resources:' is less than 10 or 15 percent, your only hope is to close
other applications or to restart Windows.
