I am not sure about that, never seen it before... May be you have
limited the number of open file handles artificially. Is your EMXOPT
environmental variable set to something specific? Mine EMXOPT line in
config.sys look something like 'SET EMXOPT=-h200 -c -n', which allows
up to 200 open files.
