Yup.

No idea. This problem (of *getting* news) got fixed right after
I reported it. It wasn't until several hours later, when I tried
to *post* news, that the other problem showed up. I'd never had
either problem prior to the switch of news servers.

Er, no. The problem was entirely on his end. He didn't explain
exactly what he had done. He ain't a uqwk expert (I may be his
only subscriber with a shell account using uqwk/Soup).

The process went through several stages. He told me he'd fixed
it, and I tried again and got this message:

jstein@earth : uqwk -m -n +L -RREPLIES
uqwk: Posting article to alt.meditation.transcendental
Warning What server? -- Article will be spooled.

Called him about this one. He asked me what command I was using
to post news, then fiddled around until he was able to post a
couple of dummy articles using the same command. After that, I
was able to post news.

But then when I tried to *get* news again, I got this:

jstein@earth : uqwk +n +x +L
Can't get active file from server:
502 You have no permission to talk. Goodbye.

Fortunately, he was still at the voice number, and he fixed this
too; whatever he'd done to enable me to post news had fouled up
my ability to *get* news, which had been fine after he'd fixed it
the first time.

Now all seems to be well...

No, if I'd changed a script or anything else, I wouldn't have
said I hadn't changed anything! <sheesh>

I have *no* idea of how this all works, absolutely none. All I
know is, I reported the various error messages as they appeared,
and the guy fixed them.

(BTW: which 'OS' are you using, how do you call uqwk
> (options)?).

I don't know, my system runs DOS, and I access uqwk from a Unix
shell.

To get news: uqwk +n +x +L
To post news: uqwk -m -n +L -RREPLIES

Also you could start uqwk with the '-p' command line
> option, to check if uqwk is thinking the same way you do.

What does the -p option do, specifically?

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm just following up for general
informational purposes.

Everything seems to be working fine now, and my only problem is
catching up to the current discussion on the newsgroup without
deluging it with all my backed-up responses at once...

What still burns me is that my ISP would make such a major change
right before the weekend and not stick around to see whether it
was working smoothly or not.
