I thought I'd said I was using a shell account in my first post,
but maybe I forgot...

I'm not sure how to answer all that. I dial my ISP and log on,
get into the shell, give the uqwk command to gather mail and news
in Soup format, zip it up into one file, download it to my
machine with ZModem, then log off and import the messages/news
into Yarn. If that's a terminal connection, then that's what I
got!
Anyway, it's all fixed now, working fine.
(Except that the news server only gets about 50% of what's posted
to the SINGLE newsgroup I take. I get the rest of it from a kind
friend with a different ISP who forwards it to me via email.)
