That's interesting, but not surprising. A couple of months ago, my ISP
was having trouble with a new news server, and I was helping troubleshoot
the problem. This ISP is in the Atlanta, GA area. I also have an account
with a BBS in Ohio that carries newsgroups. I noticed that within
newsgroups that are supposed to be distributed worldwide, there would be
a percentage of posts that appeared on that BBS and on my ISP, and some
that would appear on one server but not the other.
A little research showed that the presence of an article on a server
depended on where the article originated, and therefore the route the
article took to get to the destination. In the case of America.Net (my
local ISP), if the article didn't route through UUNet, it never made it
to the server. In the case of the Ohio BBS, articles generally went
through universities and such (the BBS is fed from Ohio State University).
Strange, but true.
