Same sentiments from everyone else who is on this list I'm sure. <g>

My ISP is "consolidating" with another from 1.1.97 and the situation is
still unclear. Many pretty words about holding the status quo but the
status is one ISP (my current) has shell access while the other does
not.

I investigated Souper95 and got it running, thanks to help from members
of this list. I am running that daily now as I prefer to avoid having to
boot to DOS to run Qmodem.

Souper does place more responsibility on the user.

What I did was cut and paste from batch scripts from others who had done
that before and run it in a Virtual DOS Machine window under WinNT. This
after logging on and starting PPP that is.
The batch script starts Souper95 and runs through the mail and news
delivery and collection and then exits Souper95.

IMHO, ringing in with a DOS comms prog and running uqwk via a shell
access is much faster than Souper as with uqwk the processing is done by
the host system while Souper does it (correct me if I am wrong) locally.
With Qmodem and uqwk I get 1MB packets (my ISPs' uqwk limit) of news and
mail packaged and transferred within 3 minutes. With Souper95 over PPP
it takes from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the load on the server.
As we pay the telco by 3 min/9 min (day/evening) time frames and the ISP
charges by the minute, it can be costly using Souper.

I am looking into putting together a telnet script which could be used
to run uwqk for faster mail/news delivery/collection. Just have not had
the time to dig into the intricacies of script writing for a telnet
client yet. Hopefully, uqwk will run fast in the background and deliver
packets as quickly as under DOS.
