What's confusing about:

"to subscribe to the mailing list, mail a message to
listproc@lists.colorado.edu. The body of the message should be
the line

subscribe yarn-list Your Full Name

assuming Your Full Name is your full name. If it isn't,
substitute your own name."?

In your case, this would be:
"subscribe yarn-list J Marinello",
in a message to listproc@lists.colorado.edu. The correct e-mail
address will be taken from your From-line.
