running yarn corrupts dos system

I am having computer problems and would like to hear from anyone who has
an idea on what is going here.

after a clean format of the hard drive and a new installation of dos 6.22
I began putting my old programs and directories back on the drive. when
attempting to run yarn again I had the disk just attempt to access the
program but fail and retunrn to dos prompt. at this point no other
programs will run and a reboot is impossible.

the system hangs at this line:
msdos is testing himem.sys Done

then it will not reboot until a new dos is installed. even by passing
the config.sys will not work.

my question is why does this kind of access corrupt the system each time
and is it hardware or software. The technicians say it is software but
it is the same software that I have run for years now.

Thanks for any ideas,
