I've been lurking on this mailing list for quite a while. I've been
using Yarn for for even longer, since version '0.8?'. There is a lot of
good information here for the Yarn newbie as well as the veteran Yarn
user. I've picked up a number of Yarn utilities that people have
announced here and found many of them quite useful. Now it's my turn.
This message is to announce a new Yarn utility called WHY, Windows
Helper for Yarn. (Yes, when I named it that I fully expected a number
of jokes and good/bad puns, well, bring them on.) WHY is a MS Windows
95 shell for the Yarn offline mail/news reader package. Choose the
options you want in WHY, click the Ok button, and WHY starts up the
appropriate Yarn program or utility for you with the appropriate command
line options. Here is a short list of some of the features of WHY:
* A GUI shell for Yarn
* No more forgetting program names and command line switches
* You can call your favorite Yarn utilities from within WHY
* Run programs in the window size you want (Min,Norm,Max,FullScr)
* Save your preferences from one session to the next
* Each user can save their own set of preferences
* WHY is documented in an extensive WinHelp file
* WHY is freeware
One thing to keep in mind, WHY is currently a version 1.00
product. There is always one more bug. Sooner or later WHY
will crash. Since WHY is a spare time project, I cannot promise
how fast bugs will be fixed, but they will never be fixed if
they are not reported.
If you would like to learn more about WHY, see a few screen
captures, and maybe even download it, point your browser at the
