Finally, at long last, I've finished the latest upgrade to Souper/Gui
for Windows. I've changed the name to Souper/Gui for Windows to avoid
confusion with Souper95 for Windows95.
Executable files for both Windows 3.1 and Windows-95/NT are included
in the .zip file
I have uploaded Souprw08.zip to the following site:
<ftp://ftp.mcs.com/mcsnet.users/bobr/souprw08.zip> (available now)
Souper for Windows is a Winsock compliant mail and news client program
for Microsoft Windows using SLIP/PPP. It transfers mail and news
fetched from a POP3 server and NNTP server respectively to SOUP
format. It can also send messages in SOUP reply packets.
This program has been written for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95/NT and requires
a "winsock.dll" supporting version 1.1 of the Windows Sockets Interface. (The
standard "dial up networking" that comes with Windows-95 is acceptable.)
- Renamed program to "Souper/Gui for Windows" to avoid confusion with Souper95.
- Added 32-bit version for Windows-95/NT
- Added a counter when downloading group names from NNTP server.
- Added Get Group List command.
- Fixed a bug in screen printing code that could cause a GPF when printing more
than 256 lines to the screen.
- Rewrote display code for faster updating.
- Added Windows-95 style context sensitive help to all commands for both
Windows 3.1 and Windows-95.
- Added capability to specify NNTP, SMTP, POP3, servers, user name and password
on the command line (compatible with Souper95, OS/2)
- Help file
- Added installation instructions for Windows-95/NT.
- Added installation instructions for command line version.
- Added "Regular expressions for Dummies"
Both a 16-bit version for Windows 3.1 and a 32-bit version for Windows-95/NT
are included in the .zip file.
There are also versions for OS/2 Warp's Internet Access Kit and a
command line version for Windows-95/NT. These are not included, but
are available at <http://www.vex.net/yarn/archive/>.
This version was ported by Bob Rush to Windows / winsock from the OS/2
version written by Chin Huang <cthuang@io.org>.
