When I run the script that we do have here, it shows me onscreen what
it's doing, i.e. "mailing to:.. , posting article to:.." (if there's a
reply packet), and then as the news is gathered, a line such as this
for each group:
/usr/local/bin/uqwk.nntp: talk.politics.tibet
>From this may I deduce that UQWK is using NNTP as you said above?
>I'm just telling you this IN CASE changing the variable doesn't work,

Right, I would not tackle this, for sure.

I'm not ready to disregard anything at this point '-)

Ok that's one important question out of the way. I am creating a fresh
.newsrc file if I don't have one, and start TIN on a different server.
Is it going to cause yarn any problems importing articles from a
different source than what's already in the newsbase (with a different
numbering system etc)?

Actually I haven't been that brave yet '-)

I've got most of it here for reference, but I must have missed
something if he goes into much detail with UQWK. OLmenu seems to be
just what I need though.
>However if you just want command line parameters for Uqwk have you

Nothing. That was the first thing I tried. I guess they replaced it
with man oman (the name of the script that does run for offline mail
and news). From what I've learned here the last few days, I'm
beginning to think that oman will be able to operate on any server
which is set. Just haven't been able to get confirmation yet by the
administrators, and too chicken to do a lot of mucking around '-)

Yeah, I knew that they are being sent properly. I was just concerned
that it may have effects on the recipients, having a newsgroups line
in an email might confuse some lesser able readers than yarn. When I
first used it with our local Bangkok mailing list, I was lightly
castigated with "Brian, this is a mailing list, *not* a newsgroup."
Maybe he was just nitpicking, or needs a better reader.
Thanks for your advice and help.
