Keep messages

Forgive me if that was already asked and answered several times:
- is it possible to flag a message as 'keep' to it won't be deleted by
the EXPIRE utility?
Or is the only solution to save the messages to keep to folders?
- when I hit 'K' on a usenet message I'd like to delete from my
message base (or a thread I don't want to keep), all that happens is
that a 'R' appears in the column at the right of the message list, as
if it was marked 'Read'. What's wrong?
(Or, is there a way to delete usenet messages from the message base
other than through the EXPIRE utility?)
