Souper problem - lost mail

I've been having a problem with Souper and lost mail. I connect to my ISP
long distance once a day briefly to get my news and mail. My machine is a
bit flakey, and every once in a while it freezes up. If it freezes while
I'm downloading email all the email I had downloaded is lost. This is
pretty frustrating, and last time I lost over 50 messages. Is this a
souper problem? An ISP problem? I understand that my machine is the one
freezing, however shouldn't the mail not be deleted until it's complete?
And shouldn't souper be writing it to disk as it comes in, so that it won't
get lost if smething like this happens?
Or is there something about the way mail works that I just don't
understand?
