Depends on what you mean by "large volume", I guess. :-)
I read 36 groups on a daily basis using VSoup+Yarn under OS/2, and I
also read another 11 groups on the Linux side using slrnpull and slrn
(since that's the solution I like the best right now under Linux).
But I generally don't delete the news after reading on the Yarn side.
Instead, I use "expire -o" to let the messages slowly time out, which
lets me reference things from past threads for a few days afterwards.
On the Yarn side, my spool isn't that big -- about 22MB right now, of
which 9MB or so is currently slack.
I control my VSoup/import/Yarn and expire calls using an OS/2 CMD file
slightly enhanced using a few 4OS2 commands, and at some point I may
convert it to REXX and fancy it up a bit.
I also have eight mailing lists set up as pseudo newsgroups under Yarn,
although this is the only one that I post to (the rest are newsletter
or technology news tidbit lists, and aren't interactive).
