souper95 stalling

For unknown reasons, our previously working uqwk setup has gone belly-up
WRT to newsgroups (still gets mail OK), so for now I've switched to
SOUPER95. I got it working with minimal difficulty (thanks in part to
Debra Walker's example batch files that I found in the mailing list
archive, thanks Debra).

But I've got one problem: it's exhibiting a strong tendancy to just
stall partway through a news retrieval. While I've developed enough
understanding of SOUP formats and other things to do a ctrl-break and
manually import what's been retrieved, this is supposed to be for my
wife and work without operator intervention. So, has anyone else had
problems with souper95 stalling, and have they been able to cure it?

For reference, system is Win95 on a generic 486/100. My ISP's news
server runs at acceptable speed but isn't a speed demon. OTOH, in the
same call as souper was stalling, I was able to use NewsXpress with no
difficulty at all and with very reasonable response times.
