I've got the same question when importing under WinNT. If I try to
import mail using yw95_092's import, all my mail ends up in my inbox,
rather than being filtered into the proper pseudo-newsgroup (and I do
get the same error message.) I've been told to use the import from the
DOS yarn 092, but have had dismal results. News import runs without a
hitch.

I've tried using an explicit path in place of the %d to point to the
DOS filter1, but that made things worse.

Yes. If you use different YARN variables, you'll wind up with multiple
newsbases. I keep mine as E:\YARN which is a FAT partition so both
versions of yarn can access the newsbase (although there are HPFS
drivers for NT and NTFS drivers for OS/2.)
