Leave YARN be, it is configured just fine. You merely need to change
how the information gets to your computer from the newsserver.

Previously, you probably dialled, ran a script, then the server
zipped and sent you the messages, then you logged off. The only
difference with PPP is after establishing the connection, you have
another program access nntp://news.your.isp.com (using a local copy
of your .newsrc file from that old shell account) and it will send
the messages/import them etc for you. Once configured, it's a
one-mouseclick event, or timed automatic event.

I went through this too, and actually gained speed using
VSOUP, for the shell host was overburdened and slow. I have had good
luck using YRNDL153.ZIP, a front-end dialler program for
sending/receiving mail/news with either SOUPER or VSOUP... if using
OS/2, VSOUP is the superior answer... it is multithreaded and
fast... SOUPer is for single-plodding DOS mode. YRNDL works well for
OS/2, try it.

YARNIO.CMD included in the VSOUP archive works well also. Currently
I am using INJOY as the PPP stack program (replaces DOIP), which
easily allows autostarting other programs for each configuration...
for example YARNIO.CMD, then times out and logs off fast. very easy
also to add in to a timer program, if you wish, or just run from an
icon on the desktop/taskbar/whatever.
