Quotation from http://www.vex.net/~x/yirx/

This is an experimental program which attempts to "pack-in-place"
(shrink) your Yarn 9.x News.Dat file, freeing up any unused space,
without resetting any import dates. It can also be used to just perform
"integrity" testing on your news.dat file.

There used to be a link for yarnpack but currently I don't see any.
Maybe someone else here will be able to help you locate the actual
program. BTW, I use it on a regular basis and I am pretty much
satisfied with it.
