The GUI readers I've seen are usually too slow, either try to do too
much (why anyone wants to view HTML in a newsreader is beyond me) or
too little (*email and news under the same roof*), *don't have scoring*,
*don't allow you to edit the headers on the fly* (you usually have to
make them permanent, send a message, then set them back, yuck!), and/or
are sooo full of bugs as to be worthless.
I'm sure I left out a couple of important items, that is just off of the
top of my head.
Besides, I read email and news _to_view_text_, what is a GUI going to
buy me? Not a g**d***ed thing. When evaluating a newsreader, I don't
consider it a plus or a minus (although speed certainly is a
consideration, and some GUI programs fall flat on performance), unless
the menuing, etc., is so counterintuitive that I'm spending more time
reading help files than actually using it.
Yes, I've looked at some. A _couple_ have come close. However, I'm
still using Yarn. If it were easier to have it put files exactly where
I want to and still be avaible for more than one user, and if the
news database weren't so easily corrupted, I probably would never look
at another one. Mind you, these are pretty minor bugs.
