This has happened to me when inbox has gotten corrupted when I run out of
disk space importing my mail. All your new mail is being appended to the
end of your last old message. If you view your last old message, it will
go on and on and you will see your new msgs appended to the end of that mail.
I usually delete that last message to fix the corruption and continue with
my life :).
