The mail client I believe you're referring to is Pegasus Mail, an
excellent freeware program by David Harris. You'll find DOS, 16 bit
and 32 bit windows versions on this site:

http://www.pegasus.usa.com/

Pegasus lets you choose to whom you reply and has excellent
signature handling (create and choose from up to 9) and filtering.
You can have several messages open at once for cut-and-paste
operations.

But Yarn may still be the best at handling both news and mail. Too
bad Chin won't let someone bring it's strengths into the Windows
and *nix worlds.
