>First, what is the -h command line option for and when is it needed?
It's for setting your HOME directory, and it tells VSoup where to find
its configuration files. I use the HOME environment variable myself
(which I set in the batch file I use to control both VSoup and Yarn).
I normally will first set it to the subdirectory I have VSoup living in
(D:\NETSTUFF\VSOUP), run VSoup, and then set HOME to the subdirectory
appropriate for Yarn before I run Yarn.
>Next, when fetching newsgroups, should I use the newsrc file which
>yarn produces?
No. VSoup uses a newsrc file which is compatible with other standard
newsreaders, and which determines which messages from your ISP's server
you've already read, while Yarn uses a newsrc file in the same format
to determine which messages you've read locally in Yarn.
The two sets of message numbers (and groups) will be different.
>What about the yarn-specific newsgroups such as junk and other
>pseudonewsgroups that I've created?
Those are kept track of in Yarn's newsrc file.
>Does VSoup modify the newsrc file, and if so, does this interfere
>with the performance of yarn?
It would if you used the same file. But the two utilities should be
kept in different subdirectories and should also have different newsrc
files.
