Here in list.yarn, "Counselor" <counselor@geocities.com>
spake unto us, saying:

>First, what is the -h command line option for and when is it needed?

It's for setting your HOME directory, and it tells VSoup where to find
its configuration files. I use the HOME environment variable myself
(which I set in the batch file I use to control both VSoup and Yarn).

I normally will first set it to the subdirectory I have VSoup living in
(D:\NETSTUFF\VSOUP), run VSoup, and then set HOME to the subdirectory
appropriate for Yarn before I run Yarn.

No. VSoup uses a newsrc file which is compatible with other standard
newsreaders, and which determines which messages from your ISP's server
you've already read, while Yarn uses a newsrc file in the same format
to determine which messages you've read locally in Yarn.

The two sets of message numbers (and groups) will be different.

Those are kept track of in Yarn's newsrc file.

It would if you used the same file. But the two utilities should be
kept in different subdirectories and should also have different newsrc
files.
