A solution for DOS is in work. Since Yarn is only reader, we need an
nntp transport agent which can download headers (though I would prefer
subject lines only). I use Yarn within the UKA_PPP package for DOS which
contains such an agent. (Unfortunately, this feature is not documented
at all, but the author, Karl-Heinz Weiss is really helpful, and
a.f.a.i.r. is also member of this list.).

The news agent can load the headers only, but it is not able to extract
the message id. I have found another tool called make_get, which
supposed to do this.

I haven't found the time to test this solution, but I will soon!
