Because a good (and portable) Linux port will also allow the program to
run natively under Solaris and FreeBSD, two other operating systems that I
use here from time to time (and which I'd use more if I had Yarn here).

I'd rather see portable source which can be compiled into native binaries
across several platforms than see a Java version which runs like crap on
smaller machines.

Besides, I wasn't aware that you could write a pure text-mode newsreader
in Java. Am I mistaken? I'm not a fan of GUI newsareaders.
