Hugh Corrupt Inbox Folder

With some frequency, I find the input program (apparently) has appended
a zillion null characters (hex value=00) to the end of my inbox mail folder,
making it corrupt from the point of the yarnx.exe reader and most yarn
utilities. On occasion, inbox has perhaps 7 real text messages, yet
reports a size of up to 20 Megabytes because of the null characters.

Does anyone have any ideas why import does this nasty thing to inbox?
I notice that this problem never occurs for the folders that inbox sorts
messages to because of an actual filter rule. It only happens to the inbox
default mail folder.
