Previewing News Posts

Guessing at the contents of a newsgroup post by seeing only its subject
header is, indeed, a problem. That is why I prefer to use the old ReadMail
program to browse news posts: It has an adjustable preview window,
like MS Outlook, so you can see the first few (or n) lines of each post
as well as its header, before you hit that <ENTER> key and commit to
putting the message on your full screen. ReadMail can read SOUP packets
containing newsgroups directly, without translating them into yarn type
messages, and can also read yarn's news.dat. Mercifully, it provides
user selectable header lines containing for instance, date, to, from, lines,
--.

I was always frustrated by yarn's only offering sender and subject as
the meaningful choices for the list of headers. Many times I did so much want
to scan dates while looking at the list of messages.
