I thought the denizens of this group might find my experience amusing.

I'm still using version 89 so my files are separated out. I have 831
files totalling 121 Mb.

I have all the messages from several groups running back more than a
year, and one with just about 20,000 messages in it. I almost never
post questions. I just search my message base.
