VSOUP for Win9x

I'm trying to use VSOUP for Win9x (v1.2.9.44beta - dated 8/29/99) and
I'm not having much luck getting it to work. I've always used either
Souper95 or Souper/g but figured that I'd give VSOUP a look-see.
Here's how I'm calling VSOUP (via a .BAT file):

vsoup -Z nntp://dbeko:xxxxxxxx@news.primenet.com
pop3://dbeko:xxxxxx@pop3.primenet.com

This is all on one line. I've tried using VSOUP with and without the
"-Z" command-line parameter. VSOUP connects to my mail-server but
then gives a "incorrect password for dbeko" error (the password's
correct) and the connection to the news-server gives error messages
like:

============================================
news: cannot select alt.bbs.pcboard:
AUTHINFO PASS: 502 Authentication error
Unsubscribe group manually

news:
news: 0 articles read
news: 3 threads were connected successfully
mail: Password supplied for "dbeko" is incorrect.
mail:
news:
news: totally 896 bytes received, 2124 bytes transmitted
news: 95.9s elapsed, throughput 31 bytes/s
===============================

I see that I need an authentication file (Souper/95 uses a NEWSAUTH
file - what does VSOUP use?). But what would cause the mail-server to
reject the connection based on an incorrect password? The password's
correct since I use the exact same on in my Souper/95 batch-files..

Thanks for any assistance..
