The other day, my Yarn for Windows 092 started acting up. I handled
e-mail just fine, but if I tried to read any newsgroups, it would take
about a minute to display the first post, and about 30 seconds to go
from one post to the other. (This is on an NT box, and until this
time, it didn't give me any trouble.) After much frustration, I
finally thought to do a rebuild. That fixed it.
However, for no apparent reason, import quit working. Well, let me
clarify. When I was "upgraded" to NT, I found I had to do e-mail
imports with "import", but I had to import newsgroup posts with
"import95". Don't ask me why...I have no idea. But, that's what
worked...and I don't recall the error messages I was getting, or the
exact problems I was having. For some reason, import95 worked fine on
importing newsgroup stuff, but neither it nor import would handle my
e-mail, at all. Both would churn for a while, and then come back with
0 articles imported, and no messages about filtering anything to
INBOX, or to any other folder.
Nothing I tried helped. Finally, I turned to the mailing list
archives, and found a post from Michael Raiteri, from way back in May
of last year, who had a similar problem. He was apparently a beta
tester for Windows 2000 (the replacement for NT), and couldn't get
import to work for him. His message said that he replaced his copy of
import with the DOS version, and it worked just fine. So, I copied
over the import from yarn_092.zip that I just happened to have sitting
elsewhere on my HD, and lo and behold, it worked.
Thanks, Michael!
