This was my conclusion: When you grow up speaking English (as I have), things
that poke fun at English are very funny. So, in the spirit of giving, I offer
two more web sites in that same kind of tradition.
Firstly, we have the Old
English Computer Glossary. I don't understand a word of it, but the mere
fact that it exists pleases me.
Secondly and lastly, The Devil's
Dictionary, by Ambrose Bierce. We had to read parts of this in high school,
and I think this may have been one of the only literary texts I didn't hate
because of it.
I'll add other sites as I find them, but for now please continue on to
Amber's Pages.
Yesterday I was sent a URL for a web site that sent me into wildly uncontrollable
laughter. The site is called
English As She Is Spoke
and, as the first sentence will tell you, it contains exerpts from the worst
phrasebook ever written. When I was done reading through everything, I sat back
and wondered why that kind of stuff could amuse me every time, without fail
(or with very little failure).
