Rules for Angels
5. Honor your Body as a Temple to God. How often have all of us thought
of food as something to simply assuage hunger or emotional pain instead of
nutrition? How many of us pay attention to the advice to eat at least 5
servings of fruit and vegetables and drink 8-10 glasses of water per day?
Worst of all, how is it that we knowingly eat things that we know are bad
for us because we have been conditioned to believe that we like the taste?
If you are like me, you treated your car better than you treat your Body.
I haven't figured out yet what the equivalent to a candy bar is to a car
in terms of something that it likes that isn't good for it. But we do it
all the time, and there are whole industries dedicated to making us ill.
This page will list things that Angels are expected to do, not that falling
off the diet and exercise wagon will lose your privileges, since Angels come
in all shapes, and sizes, and colors. When the list starts getting too long,
I will break it up into subsections of no more than a page each. But I'll
try to keep it as short as possible.
- Make room in your schedule for the equivalent of three 30 minute sessions
of exercise each week ... it might be a simple as taking the stairs instead
of the elevator at work, or walking to the corner store instead of driving.
- Drink lots of water. Any more than about a half glass at a time and you'll
find you have to go to the washroom a lot more often. You flush a lot more
toxins out of your body and your blood transfers oxygen more efficiently.
- Don't buy anything that has hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils
on the list of ingredients. That is trans fat and it is more like plastic
than regular fat when your body uses it to make cell walls. Strike products
with hydrogenated oils off your shopping list forever.
- Avoid anything that has corn syrup as one of the ingredients. It's not
there to make you healthy, it's there to encourage you to eat even more of
that product than you normally would. Again, watch the labels, better yet,
avoid buying food that has labels at all. You won't find them on fresh fruits
and fresh vegetables.
- Minimize fast food purchases. All those Big Macs and Whoppers are finely
tuned to provide your body with the minimum standard for nutrition, and your
Body deserves more than minimal nutrition. Choose the salads instead of the
burgers and fries (what nutrition is there in fried potatoes?).
- Stay away from white bread and most other baked goods. These starch
molecules are the equivalent of millions of sugar molecules with a tremendous
amount of useable energy for storable fat. If you're trying to lose fat, cut
back on the bread. If you can't do without it, try to eat bread earlier in the
day than later, so you have a chance to burn it off with your daily activity.
