If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I last read uqwk's
source), uqwk first retrieves a list of all the newsgroups on your
server, and only then will it start downloading news. Since that
list can be a few hundred K, it can take a while.

Why it would want that newsgroup list every time is beyond me, but I
have no doubt there is some perverted idea behind it. =)
