The wedding has many collectibles, including the little bride and groom
that often graces the tops of wedding cakes. As reflections of our
time, these miniature couples are able to reflect our style of dress as
they change throughout the years. Before the twentieth century, early
cake toppers were made from sugar and were either eaten or crumbled
easily. The next types were carved in wood and usually stood on plaster
bases, which were molded into delicate and attractive backgrounds for
the tiny wooden dolls.
