Charlize Theron - Oscar winner
Charlize Theron was born August 7, 1975 and brought up on a farm in
South Africa. Although early on, she was trained as a ballet dancer,
she went to Milan, Italy as a teenager to study as a model. Charlize
never gave up ballet and ultimately moved to New York to continue her
dancing studies. A knee injury cut short her ballet ambitions, so her
mother encouraged her to go to Los Angeles to try acting. An accidental
discovery by an agent led to her first role. Her looks, talent and
drive all combined to produce a successful formula that ultimately got
her into the movies.
Early minor roles occurred in "Children of the Corn III" (1994) and "2 Days in the Valley" (1996), the latter generating critical appraise, and stepping her up to a leading role with Keanu Reeves in "The Devil's Advocate" (1997). Then followed "Trial and Error" (1997) and "Mighty Joe Young" (1998), every project advancing her exposure and adding to her praise. She ultimately achieved a starring role in "The Cider House Rules" (1999) alongside Michael Caine and Tobey Maguire. She appeared in many more highly anticipated but underachieving movies, but never at the expense of her reputation. It was her role in "Monster," a drama based on the true story of a serial killer that Charlize finally shone. For the role she received a dozen awards including her first Oscar.
