There are a few cards in every deck that new players fail to counter
effectively. Here are some cards that players seem to be failing at
countering successfully.
Jinzo: Most new players, when they see this for the first time,
think the only way to counter this monster is to arm themselves with one
of their own. But there are few ways to take this out, as most good
monster destruction is in trap form. However, Offerings to the
Doomed offers a good solution at the consistent spell speed of two.
The skipped draw makes this an ineffective tool against monster rushes
with more than two monsters, but it is effective enough to warrant two,
if not three slots in most decks without other answers to Jinzo.
Other Spell cards are just too slow or too inconsistent to deal with a
Jinzo attack.
The random 1900's: There is an absolute quickness to which the
1900's set in with. It used to be a Gemini Elf or a Spear
Dragon, but with the later sets, more 1900's have appeared in the
decks of beat down players everywhere. Most players can't keep up
without spending a lot for the beaters themselves. Just follow the rule
that: "bigger is better". Sometimes just use a 2000 Attack Point
monster, like Dark Elf. Where a 1000-point cost of attacking can
be painful, it is better on defense. The best 2000-point attacker works
on defense. The only monster destruction consistently in most decks is
the Mirror Force, which can't stop a non-attacking monster. The
other magics are either card drawing, equips, or mass monster
destruction. Even though most players can smash through a defender with
a timely Raigeki, it was a restricted spell that was wasted on a
first play. Dark Elf is better than most 2000-point defenders
because it has the option of dealing major damage without leaving itself
open. Also one of the better Yugioh pictures.
Vampire Lord: The best way to take this out is to prevent it
from being played. This is not always possible. Most ways to counter
it, involve a lucky equip pull, but there are more inventive methods.
Disappear makes for a solid addition to most side decks. It also
provides a quick way to counter Monster Reborn or Call of the
Haunted. Another choice one is Bottomless Trap Hole. It
takes out most threats, and is quite flexible.
Exodia: The easiest solution is the trap Disappear. Most
players get rid of the pieces using Painful Choice, so the
quickened version of Soul Release should get the job done, even
in response to Backup Soldier. Hand Destruction can be
used, but not good to eliminate the fat Egyptian permanently.
Exchange can bring a quick permanent end to the large monster.
Gravity Bind: This can clog up the game when played correctly. It
normally involves several Yugioh cards similar to Judgment of Anubis
that can counter many commonly used magic destructors. You have two
options if your opponent plays it with backup. You can try to run your
opponent out of counters, but a better choice is to use counters of your
own. Your own counters are easier to fit into a deck than more magic
destructors. A good deck has about 2 or 3 magic destructors.
